In “Ten Thousand Stitches,” we are introduced to Effie, a girl who’d give nearly anything to be seen by the man she loves— Benedict Ashbrooke. There’s only one problem. He’s a lord and she’s his housemaid. Through a series of distressing events, she enlists the help of Lord Blackthorn, a faerie with good intentions that has troubling outcomes.
What follows is a charming tale of growth, independence, mayhem, and ultimately love. TTS is set in the regency era and the setting is whimsical and light. This was also a fast read, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I would say it errs a little more on YA without seeming childish. I really was thinking ~Ella Enchanted~ the whole time.
My favorite part of this book is the characters. I adore the protagonist as she is strong-willed, hardworking, and kind– and she was written in such a way that these qualities never seemed forced, but came naturally. Lord Blackthorn is wonderfully peculiar and you suspect his intentions at times, but it’s clear he is good at heart.
The plot is a bit predictable— there’s a slow burn love story and the intended recipients of it are pretty evident early on, but that didn’t remove my overall enjoyment of the story.
Overall, it’s a fun read and I would suggest it for someone looking for something quick and charming.
